Crews will sweep the city starting Sunday as part of Winnipeg’s $6 million annual spring cleanup.
According to the city, crews clean more than 45,000 tonnes of sand and debris from streets each year.
Street and sidewalk sweepers will initially focus on the downtown area, then branch out through major routes, bridges and overpasses over the next five to six weeks.
Temporary “no parking” signs will mark some streets during scheduled cleaning times and motorists should find alternative parking during these posted times to avoid a ticket or tow. The city says signs will only be erected on streets where vehicles present a problem.
In an effort to prevent yard waste material getting raked onto the street, seasonal yard waste collection will also start next week.
