Hey there, time traveller!

Silver may not be the colour Randy Neufeld was hoping to bite at the senior men’s world curling championships, but the Manitoban curler kept Canada’s enviable finals streak alive.
Over the weekend, the La Salle skip and his team of third Dean Moxham, second Peter Nicholls and lead Dale Michie clinched second place at the senior worlds in Sweden, falling 7-4 in the final to Sweden’s Mats Wrana.
That was the only loss of the competition for Team Neufeld, which rolled 8-0 through the round robin and neatly knocked off Scotland’s Gordon Muirhead and Ireland’s Peter Wilson in the playoffs. But their streak came to an end in the ultimate game, where they came up against the talented Swedes.
Trailing 5-4 through six ends, Neufeld forced Wrana to take a single in the seventh. But the home-ice Swedes stole a single in the eighth to seal the win, the first senior men’s world championship for Sweden.
“It never feels good to lose and we came here to win, but they played great,” Neufeld told Curling Canada after the match. “They really worked for their two deuces and deserved to win today.”
If it’s any consolation, the foursome did keep Canada’s perfect record of world senior men’s final appearances intact. Team Canada has now figured into all 15 gold-medal games at worlds, and won nine of those; the most recent Canadian senior men’s world champion was Wayne Tallon in 2014.
The Neufeld foursome qualified for this year’s worlds by winning the 2015 Canadian senior championship. They were hoping to make it back-to-back Maple Leafs at the 2016 nationals earlier this month, but ended up taking home a silver at the tournament in Nova Scotia. Ontario’s Bryan Cochrane won the final and will compete at next year’s worlds.
