The Winnipeg Jets have signed goaltender Michael Hutchinson for another two seasons.

The 26-year-old native of Barrie, Ont., agreed to a two-year, one-way deal worth an average annual salary of $1.15 million.

“It’s definitely a weight off your shoulders in the summertime,” Hutchinson said. “I’m excited to be able to be here and be a part of the Winnipeg Jets organization for another couple of years. I couldn’t be happier.”

Hutchinson said the contract negotiations came together pretty quickly.

“I didn’t think anything of it; it’s one of those things that’s out of your control and you just let your agent and Winnipeg figure it out,” Hutchinson said. “I got a couple calls here and there but the deal got done relatively quick, which is really nice. It was a pretty easy process.”

With the Jets’ stable of goaltenders, including Ondrej Pavelec and Connor Hellebuyck — who’ll be taking a run at the No. 1 job — Hutchinson wasn’t thinking about training camp on Tuesday.

“I’m sure everything will sort itself out in time, and the only thing I can control is getting myself ready for the season to put my best foot forward when the season starts,” he said.

Drafted in the third round (77th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins, Hutchinson appeared in 30 games for the Jets last season. He recorded a 9-15-3 record with a 2.84 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage.
