Local swimmers will have to find somewhere else to cool off this summer.
The Pan Am Pool is temporarily closed to the public starting Monday, July 25, for facility upgrades. It’s expected to be closed until late September.
In preparation for next year’s 2017 Canada Summer Games, the pool’s 50-year-old bulkhead is being replaced with a dual bulkhead system. Canada Summer Games is contributing $550,000 towards the new dual bulkhead.
Other upgrades will include an improved lounge area at the front of the building and parking lot upgrades. The City is contributing $1.4 million to the renovations.
In an email to the Free Press, the City of Winnipeg said it is working with affected sports groups to help relocate athletes to different pools while the Pan Am is closed.
The Learn to Swim program will be available at indoor pools across the city.
