Kyle Connor broke a 2-2 deadlock at 7:02 of the third period as the Winnipeg Jets downed the visiting Ottawa Senators 4-2 at MTS Centre on Monday night.

Connor banked his shot off the mask of Sens netminder Andrew Hammond from a near impossible angle to give the Jets the go-ahead goal.

Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele and Nikolaj Ehlers also scored for the Jets. Ryan Dzingel and Tom Pyatt had markers for the vistors.

JOHN WOODS / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS Winnipeg Jets goaltender Michael Hutchinson (34) saves the shot by Ottawa Senators' Chad Nehring (23) and Jets' Brendan Kichton (59) during first period pre-season NHL action in Winnipeg on Monday.

Dustin Byfuglien and Mathieu Perreault both had a pair of assists.

Michael Hutchinson turned aside 30 for his second win of the preseason. Andrew Hammond stopped 26 in a losing effort.

SECOND PERIOD

Ottawa drew first blood in the game at 3:59 of the second period via forward Ryan Dzingel. Tom Pyatt then converted on a 5-on-3 at 16:16.

Mark Scheifele tied it at 10:49 after tapping home a cross-ice feed from Ehlers at the side of the net on the power play at 10:49. Blake Wheeler wired home a shot 19:54 to tie the game.

Drew Stafford didn’t emerge from the Jets dressing room to start the second period. Stafford took a hit late in the first frame and was ruled out of the rest of the game with an upper-body ailment.

FIRST PERIOD

The Jets and the Senators combined for 27 shots but failed to convert on any of them in a scoreless opening 20 minutes at MTS Centre.

Forward Connor had the best chance of the period, showing his quickness as he tried to wrap one around in behind Andrew Hammond in the Ottawa goal.

Hutchinson steered aside 15 in the Jets crease. Hammond stopped 12 for Senators.
