Kevin Hayes scored the game-winning goal with 1:09 left in the third period to lift the New York Rangers to a 2-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets in NHL action at the MTS Centre Thursday night.

Chris Kreider also scored for the winners, who improved to 18-9-1 overall.

Winnipeg’s lone goal came from centre Mark Scheifele. The Jets dropped to 13-14-3 overall.

Antti Raanta made 17 saves for the visitors while Michael Hutchinson stopped 22 shots in the Winnipeg net.
