A vigil will be held Wednesday afternoon for Christine Wood, the missing 21-year-old Oxford House First Nation woman who police now say was killed.
The vigil will be held at 4 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Parish at 365 Burrows Avenue, in the same block where Wood was believed killed. People will then walk to Thunderbird House at 715 Main St. for a memorial service from 5 to 7 p.m.
Organizers are the Bear Clan Patrol, Canadian Centre for Child Protection and Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak.
The vigil will be a way for friends, family and the general public to show support for Wood’s family.
Christine came to Winnipeg last summer with her parents George and Melinda Wood for a medical appointment. She was last seen Aug. 19, 2016, leaving the hotel on Berry Street where her family was staying.
Police said this week that she was killed in a home in the 300 block of Burrows Ave. Brett Ronald Overby, 30, has been charged with second-degree murder.
