Four girls are facing arson charges, accused of setting a fire that destroyed a play structure at a city-owned golf and recreation centre Tuesday night.

The loss at the Harbour View Golf Course is estimated at $350,000. There were no injuries.

Three 12-year-olds and a 13-year-old were released on a promise to appear in court. Police say they received information from the public that led them to the suspects.

Fire crews were called to the facility, located in Kil-cona Park in the northeast corner of the city, at about 11 p.m.

Harbour View Park & Recreation Complex sits on the bank of a man-made lake. In addition to a nine-hole par 27 golf course, it offers miniature golf, tennis, shuffleboard, a driving range, lawn bowling, horseshoes, volleyball and a picnic area.
