A 13-year-old boy was arrested and has been charged with several weapon-related offences following an attack Thursday outside St. John’s High School that sent four people to hospital.

An altercation took place in a nearby park after a man had come to the school intending to confront a student. The man was injured in his upper body, police said in a press release.

Students told the Free Press they heard the victim had been stabbed, but this is unconfirmed by police. He is in hospital in stable condition.

Police said pepper spray was also used in the altercation, which resulted in three youths being taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

Police were called at about 12:45 p.m. and the school went into a lockdown. It was later lifted at about 2 p.m.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

The 13-year-old has been released on a promise to appear.
