Four teenage boys are accused of setting the fire that destroyed the Paddlewheel Princess in Selkirk last week, RCMP said Wednesday.

Three 17-year-olds — from Lockport, Selkirk and the RM of St. Clements — and a 15-year-old from Selkirk all face arson-related charges and have been released.

The ship, built in 1966, was a sister vessel to the Paddlewheel Queen, which was on the Red River a year earlier.

The Princess had been sitting in a slough in Selkirk since 2013.

It took volunteer firefighters in Selkirk about two hours to put out the flames reported at about midnight on May 9.
