One man died of a suspected fentanyl overdose Saturday afternoon and a woman who was with him was taken to hospital and survived, police said.
Police were called to check on the well being of the couple in the 400 block of Osborne Street Saturday just before 1 p.m., a police spokeswoman said.
“One of the individuals on scene had stated they were taking fentanyl,” a police spokeswoman said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was treated and survived.
“The victim is alive partly due to the actions of the officers and the first responders, Const. Rob Carver said at a press conference Monday. They’re equipped with masks to protect themselves from exposure to the highly potent opioid and armed with naloxone to administer to those suspected of overdosing.
The names and ages of the couple weren’t released.
