A Flin Flon apartment building had to be demolished after it went up in flames and firefighters spent all night battling the blaze.
Fire Chief Chad Cooper said he doesn’t know what caused the fire, which is believed to have started on the roof of the two-storey, four-unit building on Tweedsmuir Street.
The first trucks were dispatched around 9:45 p.m. Saturday. Only one resident was home at the time, and nobody was injured in the blaze, Cooper said.
“The one occupant advised they heard crackling and saw some embers coming from the roof, attic area,” he said.
It took until just after 6 a.m. Sunday for firefighters to get the fire under control.
Heavy machinery was required to fight the flames, Cooper said, and to demolish what remained of the building after the roof collapsed.
“Being a 1940s building, it had many additions and concealed spaces with old, framed construction (making) it very difficult to extinguish,” he said.
The investigation continues.
