Two Winnipeg men are facing multiple charges related to child pornography after being arrested Wednesday.
Winnipeg police said one man was arrested by the Child Exploitation Unit after July 11 search warrants had been executed on a vehicle and at a north St. Boniface residence where it had been reported child sexual-abuse imagery from a known internet chat room site had been uploaded.
Police seized numerous electronic devices from the home and the vehicle.
Matthieu Gauthier, 32, has been charged with possession of child pornography and importing, distributing, selling or possessing child pornography for the purpose of distribution or sale. He is being held in custody.
The other arrest came following a February 2017 report and investigation when police were notified a man had uploaded child sexual-abuse images. Police then discovered the same man had exchanged child pornography images through email in March 2013. The man had uploaded additional images of child pornography in February 2016 and again in April 2016.
When officers executed a search warrant March 7 at a residence in the Inkster/Faraday area, a computer belonging to a man was seized.
A subsequent analysis of the computer revealed close to 2,000 images and videos of children involved in various sex acts with other children and adults.
Matthew Adam MacNeil, 29, has been charged with two counts of accessing child pornography, possession of child pornography and two counts of importing, distributing, selling or possessing child pornography for the purpose of distribution or sale. He is being held in custody.
