A Winnipeg man with a history of incidents on city buses has been charged with threatening to kill a bus driver and supervisor.

The suspect made the alleged threat after a Winnipeg Transit driver and supervisor tried to wake him up on a bus stopped at Portage Avenue and Garry Street Wednesday at 12:15 a.m., Winnipeg police spokesman Const. Rob Carver said.

Police were called and the suspect was arrested.

The suspect was already under a court order to obey any orders given by bus drivers, Carver said.

Tyrell Marquel Cornish, 18, has been charged with uttering threats and failing to comply with a court order.

Cornish was detained in custody.

In February, a similar incident ended in tragedy when driver Jubal Fraser, 58, was stabbed to death after he woke the last passenger on his empty bus on the University of Manitoba’s Fort Garry campus.

Brian Kyle Thomas, 22, has since been charged with second-degree murder.
