Premier Brian Pallister’s approval rating dropped over the summer, according to a new poll from Angus Reid.

His approval is down to 36 per cent this quarter, said the pollster, which released results on premiers nationwide Tuesday morning.

That’s five points below his June approval rating and 17 points down from last September.

In a news release, Angus Reid said this marks the second quarter in a row where no Canadian premier has had the majority approval of its residents.

It goes on to say Pallister’s declining approval rating is likely the result of the multiple controversies this summer over the time he spends in Costa Rica, including his methods of communicating with his office while he is abroad and the use of his wife’s personal email and phone to conduct official Manitoba business. Standard & Poor’s downgrading of the provincial credit rating for a second straight year is also thought to have played a role.
