THE Winnipeg Blue Bombers released veteran cornerback Chris Randle on Wednesday.

“Roster decisions like these are never easy to make. Some are harder than others, and this certainly was a tough one,” Bombers general manager Kyle Walters said in a statement. “Chris has been the definition of a consummate professional in every facet of his game, both on and off the field, since we acquired him. Our organization cannot thank him enough for everything he has given us, and we wish him and his family the best moving forward.”

Randle appeared in 75 regular-season games with the Bombers over five seasons after being acquired in a trade with the Calgary Stampders prior to the 2014 CFL season. He recorded 217 defensive tackles, 45 special teams tackles, two sacks, 12 interceptions, and three forced fumbles.

The Bombers also announced they signed Canadian long-snapper Chad Rempel to a two-year contract extension.

Rempel, a 36-year-old Saskatoon product, was scheduled to become a free agent next month. He will return for his 15th CFL season.

Rempel has appeared in 72 consecutive regular-season games and four playoff games since rejoining the Bombers prior to the 2015 season. Rempel broke into the CFL with the Bombers in 2005 before moving on to stops with the Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, the NFL’s Chicago Bears and back to the CFL with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Rempel has played 197 regular-season games, 12 playoff games and one Grey Cup game during his CFL career.

“Chad brings an extreme wealth of special-teams knowledge to the field, locker room and meeting rooms,” Walters said in a release.
