The Winnipeg Free Press was a double winner at the North American Travel Journalists Association’s 2018 awards, announced last week.

Arts and life reporter Jill Wilson won two awards in the Travel Cruise category for the individual sections of her two-part series documenting an Adventure Canada cruise along the coasts of Greenland and Labrador. She took home the gold medal for her piece Northern Highlights, about Greenlandic traditions and cuisine; Luxuriating in Labarador, about the unspoiled beauty of Canada’s Torngat Mountains National Park, won bronze.

The North American Travel Journalists Association Awards, now in their 27th year, honour excellence in travel journalism and media. The list of winners includes journalists from the New York Times, National Geographic Traveler magazine, the Washington Post, the Globe and Mail, enRoute magazine and the San Fransciso Chronicle.

“The winners are a microcosm of the talent and journalistic excellence that encapsulates our industry leading members,” association CEO Helen Hernandez said in a statement.

“As our membership continues to grow, so do the submissions of the accomplished pool of those who work in the travel industry — raising the competitiveness and prestige of the annual NATJA Awards.”
