A funeral is planned Tuesday at St. George’s Anglican Church for the son of former city councillor Garth Steek.
Steek’s son, Tyler Steek, 38, died in a fire on Lake of the Woods, along with his service dog, Bruno.
The Kenora detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were called to the scene Feb. 18, after a fire was reported at a cottage along the popular lake front.
Tyler Steek was the only person inside the structure, which was fully engulfed by the time emergency crews arrived.
Garth Steek held the River Heights-Fort Garry city council seat from 1995 to 2004.
The River Heights-area church service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
In a Winnipeg Free Press obituary that ran over the weekend, family expressed heartbreak over the sudden loss, and gratitude to emergency personnel who were called to the scene. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association or another charity of choice.
