SWAN RIVER — Dauphin skip Emma Jensen successfully defended her title by beating Elmwood’s Meghan Walter 5-4 in the women’s final Sunday at the Provincial Under-18 Curling Championships at the Swan River Curling Club.

Jensen’s foursome, which also included third Jaycee Terrick, second Kaitlyn Szewczyk and lead Gracey Gulak, earned the right to represent Manitoba the the U18 national championship in Sherwood Park, Alta., April 2-7.

Walter’s team also included third Emily Zacharias, second Becky Friesen and lead Mackenzie Elias.

In the men’s final, St. Vital’s Jordon McDonald completed an 7-0 run through the competition by beating St. Vital’s Graham Loewen 9-2.

McDonald and his crew of third Jaedon Neuert, second Braxton Kuntz and lead Alexandre Fontaine, also qualified for nationals next month.

Loewen, who recently skipped Manitoba to a bronze-medal finish at the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alta., was joined by third Sean Flatt, second Zach Bilawka and lead Adam Flatt.
