Winnipeggers will soon have a few more options to swim and work out.
On Tuesday, the City of Winnipeg announced pool, wading pool and limited swimming lesson reopening dates, finally ending some coronavirus pandemic closures.
As of July 30, all city staff who remained temporarily laid off due to COVID-19 were called back to work to support the changes, a city news release Tuesday states.
Beginning Tuesday, the Central Corydon Community Centre, Ducharme Park, Turtle Island Neighbourhood Centre and Elmwood Winter Club wading pools will reopen. The Bruce Park wading pool, as well as the King Edward and Ness playground facility, will open Thursday.
Margaret Grant, Seven Oaks, St. James Assiniboia Centennial and Sergeant Tommy Prince Place indoor pools will open Aug. 10.
Meanwhile, swimming lessons will resume exclusively at Pan Am Pool on Aug. 10, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. Aug. 5.
Parents are “strongly encouraged to accompany their child in the water” at those lessons to help ensure they remain two metres apart from others, the city says.
The weight rooms at Fort Rouge Leisure Centre, Freight House Recreation Centre, Sergeant Tommy Prince Place and Peguis Trail Health and Fitness Centre will open Aug. 17.
Winnipeggers are asked to book swim and fitness time slots before arriving at the facilities, and arrive at pools dressed to swim, since change room and washroom access will be limited.
