An outbreak of COVID-19 positive cases has been connected to Winnipeg’s Sargent Avenue Purolator shipping facility.

Purolator corporate communications senior manager Courtney Reistetter said the majority of cases involve employees who sort parcels, but did not give an exact number of cases.

“We have been working diligently with Winnipeg Regional Health Authority to contain the spread and maintain a healthy workplace. We are providing employees with masks and we are maintaining rigorous sanitation and physical-distancing standards,” she said in an email Tuesday. “We are also following a thorough contact-tracing program and on-site health screenings for all workers and visitors before they can enter the facility.”

Those utilizing the shipping service may experience some service delays, which Reisetter said was caused by “an increase in volume and operational adjustments required in order to keep our employees, customers and communities safe throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Delayed shipments tracked online will display as “delayed due to current pandemic disruption.” Reisetter said priority is currently being given to express shipments and critical health-care deliveries.
