A Manitoba man suspected in the death of his Rural Municipality of St. Clements neighbour is now facing two charges of attempted murder, following his arrest in Ontario last week.
After a week-long search effort, Eric Wildman, 34, was arrested June 18 at a home just outside of Belleville, where Ontario Provincial Police say Wildman shot at officers attempting to execute an arrest warrant.
In addition to the attempted murder charges, Ontario police have charged Wildman with possession of a restricted firearm without a licence.
The OPP seized a Glock 9-mm semi-automatic pistol at the scene, as well as ammunition from the car Wildman had been driving, police said in a news release.
Wildman is now in custody in Winnipeg. His next court date is July 12.
Manitoba RCMP have identified Wildman as a suspect in the homicide of Clifford Joseph, who was last seen June 7.
Police also charged Wildman with transportation of a firearm contrary to regulation, and possession of a prohibited device, after a June 11 search of his vehicle uncovered several pieces of police gear and police-like clothing.
Police have not yet charged Wildman in connection to Joseph’s disappearance.
