WITH summer coming to a close, the first weekend of September also brings the national holiday that recognizes the achievements of workers across Canada.

Some of those will be on the clock Labour Day Monday. Among them, all Manitoba Liquor Mart locations will be open (after historically being closed) on the holiday. The move comes after the Retail Businesses Holiday Closing Act was repealed in 2020.

The Free Press will not publish a print edition Monday, but will have an e-edition available to subscribers.

Many businesses and government services change their hours over the Labour Day weekend. Here’s a selection:

COVID-19 TEST SITES

PCR testing is available to pre-operative patients at Dakota Medical Centre from 6 to 10 p.m. and the Minor Illness and Injury Clinic and 102-1001 Corydon Ave. from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.

Primary care providers can also provide PCR tests to eligible patients.

VACCINATIONS

COVID-19 vaccine and monkeypox clinics are closed Monday, but spaces are still available at some sites Tuesday.

SHOPPING

CF Polo Park, Kildonan Place and Outlet Collection Winnipeg are open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Grant Park Shopping Centre and Garden City Shopping Centre are closed.

The Forks Market is open regular hours.

Most grocery stores, including Safeway, Sobeys, Superstore and Walmart, are open.

Manitoba Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg are open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For details on exceptions and rural Liquor Mart hours, visit www.LiquorMarts.ca/hours.

Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours for the holiday, so Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corp. suggests the best way to find out if the one near you will be open is to call.

ENTERTAINMENT

The Assiniboine Park Zoo is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Manitoba Museum is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Children’s Museum is open 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, but will be closed for four days immediately after.

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is closed.

Movie theatres are open.

RECYCLING AND TRASH

Recycling and garbage will be collected normally for those with Monday as their collection day.

The Brady Road landfill is open 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

LEISURE ACTIVITIES

All city fitness and leisure centres are closed Monday.

The Crescent Drive, Kildonan Park and Windsor Park golf courses are open Monday.

Select outdoor pools, wading pools and spray pads will be open. Spray pad season has been extended to Sept. 11.

All city-operated indoor pools are closed Monday.

WINNIPEG TRANSIT

On Monday, buses will operate on a Sunday schedule.

For route and schedule details, visit Winnipeg Transit or contact 311.

LIBRARIES

All Winnipeg Public Library branches are closed Monday.

For detailed information on library hours, call 311 or visit the Winnipeg Public Library website.

CEMETERIES

Brookside, St. Vital and Transcona cemetery grounds are open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. Cemetery offices will be closed on the holiday.

For more information on city cemeteries, visit the municipal cemeteries branch online or contact 311.

GOVERNMENT SERVICES

Civic, provincial and federal offices are closed Monday.

The Winnipeg Parking Authority is closed Monday, but will reopen to the public Sept. 6.

The Winnipeg Animal Services Agency is closed Monday.

There is no mail delivery Monday. Canada Post offices are closed, but post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.
