Multiple alleged cocaine and crack dealers have been arrested in Kinosao Sipi Cree Nation in recent days.

The community just northeast of Lake Winnipeg, also known as Norway House, is about 450 kilometres north of the provincial capital by plane.

Norway House RCMP and other police units seized drugs, a loaded handgun and cash when executing a warrant Sept. 28 on a home in the community.

Mounties said the officers raided the house with a drug warrant, where they found 80 grams of individually wrapped crack cocaine, 300 grams of powder cocaine, the gun and cash.

Three men from Winnipeg — ages 18, 21 and 22 — were arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of cocaine.

Then at about 4 a.m. Sunday, Norway House RCMP received an impaired-driving complaint.

Officers found the suspect vehicle on Provincial Road 373 and pulled it over, arresting the driver and passenger.

Mounties found 42 grams of crack cocaine all individually wrapped, more than 57 grams of powder cocaine, cash and “drug-related paraphernalia,” RCMP said.

A photo released by RCMP also shows a kitchen knife was seized.

The driver, a 19-year-old man from Winnipeg, and a 19-year-old woman from Winnipeg, were arrested and released for court Dec. 1 in Norway House, where they will be charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cocaine, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Manitoba RCMP spokesman Sgt. Paul Manaigre said the two incidents were not related, but said the local detachment and the community’s chief and council “understand the effects that these drugs are having on the community.”

“Officers are working hard in identifying local trends, identifying suspects and preparing and executing search warrants, all for the purpose of eliminating as much of these illicit drugs as possible,” the spokesman said.
