International student’s death not criminal in nature: police

Almost five months after middle school students found a man’s body in a field during a community cleanup, the death is not suspected as being criminal in nature.
Family and community members identified the deceased as Gad Iradukunda, 21, a student at the International College of Manitoba, who came from Rwanda to study in Winnipeg in 2019.
Iradukunda’s parents travelled to Winnipeg from Rwanda to have a funeral for their son last week.
Winnipeg police said they investigated the circumstances of the death, after the body was found in late May in a South Pointe field near Tim Sale Drive. Because it was not determined to be criminal in nature, they referred further comment to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Kathryn Braun, director of the CME’s office, said Monday she could not comment about the death of Iradukunda.
Braun said the office is talking to members of the man’s family and any information would have to come from them.
