A key agency has increased the City of Winnipeg’s credit rating.
Standard & Poor Global Ratings, one of the world’s largest credit-rating agencies, raised Winnipeg from AA earlier this year and affirmed it as AA+ stable in November. The new rating is considered “extremely supportive and predictable.”
“The rating increase by S&P is a significant show of confidence in our financial management practices, including the multi-year budget process,” said Catherine Kloepfer, the city’s chief financial officer, in a news release Monday.
Higher credit ratings benefit governments by helping them secure better rates when they apply for loans.
