Two hospital security guards were assaulted this week at Health Sciences Centre.
Winnipeg police were contacted as a result of a Jan. 11 incident that caused minor injuries for two HSC security guards. The employees were trying to escort an individual off the downtown property when they were assaulted, Shared Health confirmed.
A Shared Health spokesperson stated the agency couldn’t provide information about how many security guards or other hospital workers are off work on workers’ compensation because of violent incidents.

The Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba said it receives hundreds of claims resulting from violent hospital patients or personal care home residents.
A WCB spokesperson stated Friday there were approximately 299 accepted claims in 2022, and 361 accepted claims in 2021, arising from violence against health services sector workers, which include workers in public health-care settings such as hospitals and nursing homes, as well as home care.
