A new provincial court judge has been appointed in northern Manitoba.

Former Crown attorney Lori Ann Hunter is now a judge in The Pas, taking over the position vacated by Judge Theresa McDonald, who retired in January.

Hunter, who is Métis, was called to the bar in 2012 and worked as a Crown prosecutor in Grand Rapids and youth court in The Pas, as well as attending circuit courts in Pukatawagan, Moose Lake, Snow Lake, Cranberry Portage and Flin Flon.

The province announced Hunter’s appointment Thursday in a statement from Justice Minister Kelvin Goertzen.

“I am confident Judge Hunter, who throughout her career has worked to improve access to justice in the north, will continue to work to uphold and strengthen the rule of law in her new role,” Goertzen stated.
