Students at two Manitoba colleges will be spared from strike disruptions next week.
The Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union, which represents staff at Red River College Polytechnic and Assiniboine Community College, had set a strike action date of April 11.
The union represents roughly 1,900 members in the two post-secondary schools.

RRC Polytech spokesperson Conor Llyod said the college will maintain regular operations next week, including moving ahead with scheduled exams and classes.
College and union representatives met Thursday and continued negotiations toward a renewed collective agreement.
“Following today’s session, the union advised the college that they will suspend their planned strike,” RRC Polytech spokesperson Conor Llyod wrote in an email to students Thursday evening.
“Thank you to our college community for their continued patience as these negotiations unfold.”
Llyod said the college will maintain regular operations next week, including moving ahead with scheduled exams and classes.
Contracts for both colleges began in June 2017 and expired June 2021. Negotiations started in October of that year.
The union hopes to secure higher wages for its members.
