EDMONTON – Sergio Castillo wasn’t unemployed long.
Not long after being released by the Edmonton Elks on Thursday, the veteran kicker signed a one-year deal with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Castillo, an American, hit 37-of-44 field goals last season with Edmonton while averaging 60 yards on kickoffs. He signed with Edmonton as a free agent after helping Winnipeg win a Grey Cup title in 2021.

The Elks also released American defensive lineman Avery Ellis. Edmonton acquired Ellis, 28, from Montreal last August and he had 16 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble in seven games.
Ellis began his CFL career with the Ottawa Redblacks (2017-21).
The Elks also signed Canadian Olivier Charles-Pierre and American receiver Cam Sullivan-Brown.
