Hey there, time traveller!

Manitobans will have an opportunity to weigh in on the design of new commemorative licence plates in honour of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirit individuals.
Manitoba Public Insurance is running an online survey seeking feedback on three proposed dress designs before choosing a final look for the specialty plate. This survey follows initial design consultations, and asks respondents to rank their preference for three different designs: one features a red dress, two show variations of ribbon skirts.
The specialty plates are expected to be ready this summer, the provincial government has said. In late March, an MPI spokesperson said the final design would be shared when the vehicle licence plate launches.

“In support of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and two-spirited people, Manitoba Public Insurance is producing a MMIWG2S+ plate as part of its specialty licence plate program. MPI is working closely with the MMIWG2S+ advisory committee on the design of the plate, and is gathering community feedback on the final three options, which are based on a prior survey and feedback received through the committee. MPI values input from the community on the design options — the survey is open to participants until… May 12,” an MPI spokeswoman stated Monday.
Manitoba’s other specialty plates cost $70, of which $30 goes to a designated charity. The designated charity for the MMIWG2S+ plates hasn’t yet been announced.
NDP MLA Bernadette Smith introduced the idea of MMIWG2S+ licence plates in the Manitoba legislature last fall.
She proposed a private member’s bill to have the province amend the Drivers and Vehicles Act to make way for the specialty plates, and have the money go toward an education fund for families whose loved ones have been murdered or gone missing.
