A 31-year-old man has been identified as Winnipeg’s 13th homicide victim of the year.

Vincent Brian Kipling died in hospital after being found seriously injured at Main Street and Stella Avenue around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

“It does appear that some passersby identified that a (man) was down in that area of Stella Avenue and Main Street,” said Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshen.

Officers arrived and found Kipling suffering from significant injuries. They began emergency CPR, the spokesman said.

Paramedics rushed him to hospital in critical condition, but he was later pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives have identified the victim as Vincent Brian Kipling, 31, and notified his next of kin, said Michalyshen.

Autopsy results are pending. No arrest had been made as of Thursday afternoon.

Police wouldn’t discuss how he had been injured, including whether a weapon was used in the assault.

“We’re continuing to interview and piece together what exactly took place,” he said.

By midday Thursday, little evidence of a crime scene remained at the intersection, which is adjacent to Mount Carmel Clinic, apart from a black plastic glove left on the ground.

Anyone with information or video surveillance footage that could be relevant is asked to call investigators at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 204-786-8477.
