The trial of a Manitoba man accused of murdering a rural neighbour caught stealing from him has been adjourned for two weeks.

Eric Wildman, 36, is charged with first-degree murder in the June 7, 2021 killing of 40-year-old Clifford Joseph. Wildman and Joseph lived on neighbouring properties near Stead, about 90 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg.

Jurors have not heard testimony in the trial since June 5, due to a medical issue involving defence lawyer Martin Glazer.

“It’s one of those medical issues that could be finalized any day now, but seems to be lingering,” King’s Bench Justice Rick Saull told the 14-member jury Monday afternoon.

Saull told jurors the trial would resume June 26, as long as at least 10 of them — the minimum number of jurors need for a trial to proceed — were able to return.

After a brief recess, the jury foreperson told court 11 jurors could return to hear the remainder of the trial.

The trial started May 15 and was set to last four weeks.
