A poll shows Wab Kinew’s NDP holding a huge lead over Premier Heather Stefanson’s Progressive Conservatives in Winnipeg, less than four months from the election.

The non-profit Angus Reid Institute has found that, with an election expected Oct. 3, the NDP has the support of 54 per cent of the intended vote in Winnipeg, a 25-point advantage over the Tories, at 29 per cent.

In rural areas, voting intentions flip: 56 per cent said they would vote for the Tories while 28 per cent said they would vote for the NDP.

The poll found only 38 per cent of respondents have a favourable view of Wab Kinew, while 51 per cent have a negative assessment of him and 11 per cent aren’t sure. (Submitted by Manitoba NDP)

In the province as a whole, 44 per cent said they would vote for the NDP while 39 per cent said they would support the Tories.

Winnipeg has 32 of the 57 seats in the legislature.

Despite the NDP holding the lead, not everyone is happy with its leader.

The poll found only 38 per cent — about two out of every five residents — have a favourable view of Kinew, while 51 per cent have a negative assessment of him and 11 per cent aren’t sure.

Only one in five Manitobans said the Tory government is doing a good job; only three out of 10 people who voted Progressive Conservative in the 2019 election believe the government is doing a good job.
