The Winnipeg Jets have retained the rights to seven players in the organization while cutting three others loose on the eve of free agency.

Forwards Gabe Vilardi, Morgan Barron and Rasmus Kupari and defencemen Dylan Samberg, Logan Stanley, Declan Chisholm and Leon Gawanke were all tendered qualifying offers prior to Friday’s deadline.

All are restricted free agents who will have to negotiate new contracts with Winnipeg this summer. Vilardi and Kupari just came over from the Los Angeles Kings in the trade for Pierre-Luc Dubois, while Barron, Samberg and Stanley all saw regular time with the Jets last season.

The Winnipeg Jets extended qualifying offers to seven of their restricted free agents, including Dylan Samberg, before the start of NHL free agency, Saturday.

Chisholm and Gawanke spent the year with the Manitoba Moose of the AHL. Gawanke has since signed a contract to return to his native Germany to play, but he will remain under Winnipeg control should he seek an NHL return at some point.

Forwards Kevin Stenlund and Alex Limoges and goaltender Arvid Holm were not given qualifying offers, which means the RFAs will become UFAs — unrestricted free agents — on Saturday. That means they are free to sign with any team, including the Jets should they circle back and work out a new deal.

Stenlund, 26, is a bit of a surprise. The Swedish centre, signed as a free agent last year, carved out a fourth-line role with the Jets with six goals and three assists in 54 regular-season games. He also had 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) with the Moose.

Limoges, 25, was also a free agent signing who led the Moose in scoring with 54 points (20 goals, 34 assists) in 63 regular-season games.

Holm, 24, is the only drafted and developed player, having been selected in the sixth round in 2017. He split goaltending duties on the Moose last year with Oskari Salminen (who remains under contract) and had an 18-11-4 record with a 2.67 goals-against-average and .911 save-percentage.

Free agency gets underway at 10 a.m. Saturday.
