Manitoba Liquor Mart workers across the province are walking off the job Wednesday.

Members of the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union served strike notice after rejecting the latest offer from Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries.

Effective 7 a.m. Wednesday, strike action will begin with a one-day, province-wide walkout by MGEU members working at all public Liquor Marts, the union said in a news release Friday.

An exterior of a Manitoba Liquor Mart as members of the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union across the province plan a one-day walkout on Wednesday.

The walkout includes members working in the Crown corporation’s liquor distribution centre and those in supporting business operations, including information technology, purchasing and administration.

Following Wednesday’s walkout, members will refuse all overtime, the union said.

“Our hope is to prevent this strike action and get back to the negotiating table,” MGEU president Kyle Ross said in the news release. “That’s what we want. A strike is and always will be the last resort.”

The job action involves approximately 1,400 MGEU members who have been working under an expired contract since March 2022.
