Workers at Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Corp.’s distribution centre in Winnipeg will remain on strike for the third day in a row.

On Friday, Liquor Mart retail locations will be open at regular hours, but Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union members at the warehouse (1000 King Edward St.) will remain on the picket lines, the union said.

All members of the bargaining unit are currently refusing overtime until further notice, it added.

More than 1,400 liquor workers and MGEU members walked off the job Wednesday for a single-day job action. The distribution centre workers stayed on the picket line Thursday.

Workers have been under an expired contract since March 2022, and have said the two per cent per year wage increase over four years offered by their employer (along with wage bumps for those at the end of the pay scale) isn’t enough.

MGEU is calling for wage increases in line with Manitoba MLAs and Premier Heather Stefanson, which start at 3.3 per cent this year, and rise to 3.6 per cent in 2024 and 2025.

Union and MLL representatives are scheduled to continue bargaining Friday.
