Air conditioning is back up and running at a St. Boniface personal care home six weeks after it broke down.

Actionmarguerite St. Boniface confirmed Friday the system is now working.

A chiller compressor in a residential tower of the Despins Street building failed on June 21 and cut off air conditioning to the 179 residents of that tower.

“The chiller which provides air conditioning to the Actionmarguerite St. Boniface ABC Tower has been restored to operation and we are now providing cooling throughout the building,” the facility stated in an email Friday.

Resident Pam Jojnowicz said the AC came back on Thursday evening, three hours after the Free Press posted an online story highlighting the problem.

Jojnowicz, who’s been living there since 2019, said she’d wanted to call attention to the plight of vulnerable care home residents who are particularly susceptible to extreme temperatures.
