Hey there, time traveller!

After a three-year “paws” thanks to COVID-19 public-health restrictions, Brew at the Zoo is returning to Assiniboine Park next month.
The outdoor, adults-only after-hours Sept. 15 event features samples of craft beer, cider, wine, spirits, food and live entertainment.
The emphasis is on local suppliers.

“This event is near and dear to my heart because I helped organize the first two years in 2017 and 2018,” said Laura Cabak, director of public relations and communications. “People seem to have a really good time and I hope to attend this year as a guest.”
The industry has needed time to rebuild after the pandemic, and this fall is a perfect opportunity to restart the event, said Cabak.
“The brewing industry in Manitoba is growing and it’s a great way to sample a little bit of what everybody has to offer,” she said.
Brew at the Zoo organizers are confident that the provincewide Manitoba Liquor Mart strike will not impact the availability of beverage choices at the event.
All vendors have directly ordered their sample supply from Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, which has assured organizers they’ll be able to provide for the event, said Cabak.
The event will be similar to what people have enjoyed in the past, but there might be a few vendors that attendees are experiencing for the first time, she said.
Patrons can sample from 27 vendors in total, including Barn Hammer Brewing, Brazen Hall Brewery, Capital K Distillery, Farmery Estate Brewery, Fort Garry Brewing, Kilter Brewing, Little Brown Jug, One Great City and Torque Brewing.

The culinary team is preparing food items such as pulled pork on a bun, soft pretzels served with a cheesy beer sauce, charcuterie boards and Bratwurst with sauerkraut, in addition to the zoo’s Tundra Grill and Winston’s Ice Cream Shoppe.
Brew at the Zoo will be set up along a designated path on the west side from the main entrance on Roblin Boulevard. It may be possible for people attending the event to see some animals, but most of them will be sleeping, said Cabak.
She advises anyone planning to attend to dress for the weather — rain or shine — and have plans to have a designated ride home.
