Heaving pavement on a main bike route in North Point Douglas has been fixed, a day after the Free Press highlighted what one cycling advocate termed an “absolute hazard.”

Cyclists who spoke to the Free Press Thursday said the trouble spot at the entrance to Michaëlle Jean Park at Rover Avenue and Hallet Street had been around for months — and was an accident waiting to happen. They said the damaged section highlights the lack of maintenance on Winnipeg’s active-transportation routes.

On Thursday, a city spokesperson said the damage at Rover and Hallet was related to the failure of a riverbank slope. The spokesperson did not say when it would be repaired.
