A 23-year-old man is dead following a shooting in central Winnipeg early Sunday morning.
In a release, Winnipeg police said they responded to a call at 12:45 a.m. Sunday morning about a man suffering from a gunshot wound in the 500 block of Mountain Avenue.
The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.

Police investigate at 557 Mountain Avenue which was the scene of Winnipeg’s latest homicide Sunday.
On Sunday afternoon, two police vehicles remained on scene at a two-storey home between Powers and McKenzie Streets. Police tape cordoned off the front of the house and blocked off part of the back alley. Two evidence markers were visible on the ground behind the home.
Const. Jason Michalyshen said police would not be releasing the victim’s name Sunday as they were still notifying next of kin. He was unable to say if the man lived at the home or where specifically the shooting took place.
He said police were knocking on neighbour’s doors and looking for video camera footage.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police homicide unit at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or make a report online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
