The first captain of the Winnipeg Jets 2.0 has called it a career.

Andrew Ladd, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, announced his retirement from the NHL on social media Sunday.

The 37-year-old forward played 1,001 games over parts of 16 seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes, Atlanta Thrashers, Jets, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Islanders and Arizona Coyotes.

Andrew Ladd was the captain of the Winnipeg Jets from 2011 to 2016 when he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks.

The left-winger fired 256 goals and added 294 assists during the regular season, while registering 18 points in 65 playoff contests.

Ladd won a championship in 2006 with Carolina and again four years later with the Blackhawks.

He last played with the Coyotes during 2021-22 and spent last season on the injured reserve after knee surgery.

“The time has come for my next chapter,” Ladd said in his statement. “When I was a kid I never thought I had a chance to make a living playing hockey.

“There was my love for the game. I loved being a part of a team, I loved competing, I loved the next chance to win, I loved the challenge, I loved the escape of immersing myself in the moment, I loved the feeling of belonging, I loved the confidence it gave me, I loved proving people wrong.”

Ladd played 348 regular-season games in Winnipeg. His finest season in a Jets jersey came in 2014-15 when he scored 24 goals and 38 assists while leading the squad to its first playoff appearance.

The product of Maple Ridge, B.C., was drafted fourth overall by Carolina in 2004.

He helped Canada win gold at the 2005 World Junior Championship.
