Two people have been charged after six Winnipeg eyewear boutiques were targeted by thieves earlier this year.

The businesses were hit between June 5 and Aug. 28, and nearly 300 pairs of designer eyewear valued at more than $116,000 were stolen, Winnipeg police said in a news release Tuesday.

— On June 5 at around 7:15 p.m., a suspect entered a business in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue West while trying to conceal their identity. The suspect fled with 23 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at more than $5600.

— On June 12 at around 7 p.m., a suspect entered a business in the 1200 block of St. Mary’s Road while trying to conceal their identity. The suspect fled with 30 pairs of designer eyeglass frames valued at more than $11,000.

— On June 23 about 8:45 p.m., a suspect entered a business in the 500 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway while trying to conceal their identity. The suspect fled with 60 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at more than $22,000.

— On July 6 at about 7:45 p.m., a suspect entered a business in the 500 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway while trying to conceal their identity. The suspect fled with 46 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at more than $21,000.

— On Aug. 4 at about 6:35 p.m., a suspect entered a business in the 500 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway while trying to conceal their identity. The suspect fled with 67 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at nearly $30,000.

— On Aug. 28 at about 7:30 p.m., a suspect entered a business in the 1200 block of St. Mary’s Road while trying to conceal their identity. The suspect fled with 72 pairs of designer sunglasses valued at more than $25,00.

Winnipeg police searched a a suite in the 2300 block of Pembina Highway on Friday and seized 40 pairs of designer glasses valued at more than $12,000, police said.

A 22-year-old Winnipeg man and a 20-year-old woman have been charged in relation to the thefts.

The male accused remains in custody, while the female accused was released on an undertaking.
