HSC Foundation President and CEO Jonathon Lyon:
HSC Foundation President and CEO Jonathon Lyon: "Our purchase will shave about six years off the project timeline, allowing Manitobans to receive better care in new private patient rooms, sooner."

Our vision at the Health Sciences Centre Foundation is to help HSC deliver tomorrow’s health care—today.

Usually that means supporting the redevelopment of clinical spaces, funding research, and purchasing new equipment. It can also mean buying a building.

In early August, the Health Sciences Centre Foundation announced that we had purchased the Manitoba Clinic building on Sherbrook Street—without using any donated dollars. The purchase allows HSC to move a number of clinical services to the Manitoba Clinic building with old buildings on the HSC campus are taken down and new, state-of-the-art patient towers are constructed.

This government-funded, generational redevelopment of HSC campus is a $1.5 billion capital initiative—the largest health care project in the history of Manitoba. Without our purchase of the Manitoba Clinic building, HSC would have had to build a transitional structure to facilitate patient care while the old facilities were demolished.

Our purchase will shave about six years off the project timeline, allowing Manitobans to receive better care in new private patient rooms, sooner.

While no donated funds were used to buy the building, we would not have the confidence to proceed without the enormous support we have had from donors in recent years. Our donors—and there are thousands—are passionate about patient care, excited about innovation, and knowledgeable about the role philanthropy and the HSC Foundation play in delivering the best care possible and being a catalyst for progress to take shape.

The tremendous support we are seeing for our ongoing Operation Excellence campaign and its bold agenda is one key example of the passion of Manitobans.

Operation Excellence will enable better patient care and reduce wait times for surgery and diagnostic tests. The campaign is funding the acquisition of less invasive surgical equipment—which allows for significantly shorter hospital stays and better recoveries—and we are increasing the number of operating spaces at HSC by 50%. Renovations have begun, some of new equipment has already arrived, and we are already seeing some exciting changes in the delivery of care.

As Operation Excellence moves forward, and as we start to talk about future campaigns and initiatives to enhance Manitoba’s hospital, we will continue to be inspired by your confidence and energized by your support.

Thank you for your support and thank you for helping HSC deliver tomorrow’s health care, today.

Jonathon Lyon, President & Chief Executive Officer, Health Sciences Centre Foundation.
