Manitoba’s police watchdog has provided an update on a man who was seriously injured while in police custody, after he allegedly jumped from a second-storey window.
Winnipeg Police Service officers attended an address on the 1000 block of Main Street the morning of Oct. 21 to arrest a 38-year-old man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.
During the arrest, the suspect jumped from a window, the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba said Monday.
According to the update, the suspect fractured his leg, arm and wrist.
Prior to jumping from the window, he had requested to make a phone call and was co-operating with police. When he completed his call, he jumped and landed on the pavement, the IIU said.
The injuries are defined as serious, so the IIU is mandated to investigate, it said.
The investigation is ongoing. People with information or video footage related to the incident are asked to call 1-844-667-6060.
