Winnipeg police have charged a personal fitness trainer with sexually assaulting a client.
A woman told police she had gone to a gym in Winnipeg’s northeast on Dec. 16 to work out.
The Free Press has confirmed the gym was the Regent Avenue West location of GoodLife Fitness.
The woman told police she was in a private consultation room when the trainer allegedly spoke to her in a “sexually suggestive manner” before sexually assaulting her, police said.
She did not need medical help.
Joseph Patrick Luna, 26, has been charged with forcible confinement, overcoming resistance by choking and sexual assault. He was released on an undertaking.
Sex crimes detectives are still investigating and have asked anyone with information to call 204-986-6245.
The gym’s general manager deferred comment to the organization’s national office, but said health and safety are the top priorities at GoodLife.
GoodLife Fitness’s vice-president of experience and safety, Tracy Matthews, said the organization has been in contact with police.
“(We) are completely supportive of the ongoing police investigation. In alignment with their ongoing investigation, we are completing a thorough internal investigation as well,” she said in an email.
“The safety and security of our employees and our members is the most important thing to us. We take situations of this nature very seriously and will take all appropriate action required.”
Matthews said the accused is not “actively working” with GoodLife.
