Street Connections outreach van stolen

A van that provides valuable evening outreach to vulnerable Winnipeggers was stolen over the weekend.

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority issued a news release Monday evening reporting the theft of the Street Connections vehicle.

The white 2013 Nissan NV 2500 SV features large Street Connections logos on the sides.

The van, which is staffed by public health nurses and outreach workers, drives around the city every evening but Sunday, providing front-line care and resources to anyone who needs it. The Street Connections office is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Through Street Connections the WRHA also publishes drug-poisoning notices to alert users of potentially contaminated supplies of street drugs, and doles out take-home naloxone kits, which help to reverse and prevent opioid overdoses.

“Despite the unfortunate setback, Street Connections Evening Outreach will continue to operate normally as scheduled in a rental vehicle with Street Connections signage on the roof,” the news release said.

The WRHA said if the van is spotted or someone is approached by someone in the van, please be aware that it is not Street Connections staff. The public is asked to call the Winnipeg Police Service non-emergency line at 204-986-6222 or 911 to report a van sighting.
