Three people were rushed to hospital in unstable condition after a fire on Young Street in West Broadway Thursday.
Fire crews were sent to a three-storey apartment building at 86 Young St., near Westminster Avenue, at about 1:34 p.m. and were told some residents were trapped in their suites.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire from inside while working to rescue the trapped people. Several residents were taken out using aerial ladder trucks and ground ladders, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in a news release.

In addition to the three people taken to hospital, paramedics assessed five people at the scene. Everyone else was able to get out of the building on their own, the WFPS said.
The fire was declared under control at 2:06 p.m. Most of the damage was contained to the suite where the fire started, the WFPS said.
The WFPS major incident response vehicle was sent to the scene to provide shelter for residents.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
