Winnipeg police are searching for a woman who was airlifted to the city to treat a life-threatening condition but left the hospital before she was treated.

Winnipeg Police Service spokesman Const. Claude Chancy said staff at the Grace Hospital called in a well-being check for Melissa Duck, 42, at about 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Duck had been airlifted to Winnipeg from a remote community in northern Manitoba.

Police are searching for Melissa Duck after she left Grace Hospital before receiving medical care.

“This is a life-threatening issue, so we’re just assisting the hospital,” said Chancy. “They indicated it is potentially life-threatening for her to be out-and-about … time is of the essence here to get her some help.”

Duck is Indigenous, about 5-6 with a medium build and long, dark hair. She was wearing dark clothes when she was last seen.

Chancy said it is “pretty rare” for police to be involved in searching for a missing hospital patient. He did not have further information on why she may have left, including whether she may have mental health issues.
