Winnipeg police are investigating after a woman was stabbed early Saturday morning in central Winnipeg.

According to a police release, officers responded to the area of the 600 block of Main Street for a report of a stabbing just after 6 a.m. Saturday.

On scene, police found a woman suffering from multiple injuries “consistent with being assaulted with an edged weapon.”

The woman was taken to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable condition.

Const. Jason Michalyshen said the incident occured in the area of the Manwin Hotel.

Police were on scene for several hours, leaving the area around 10 a.m., Michalyshen said.
